I Really Do Want To See An Elephant
I tend to be bad at communicating my life plans to the vast majority of people. So, hey everyone... I'm going to Africa for the next little while.
I'm going to volunteer as a nurse in a hospital on the east side of the continent. I have been working as an RN in the emergency department at a hospital in Alabama for the past few years. I absolutely love what I do, but had been feeling that my time here was drawing to a close. I had been praying about where God was leading me next and started contacting various people about overseas opportunities as well as applying to local jobs. I had either gotten negative replies or no replies at all to most of my queries and basically gave up. A few days after I stopped inquiring and was sulking, I got an email, I emailed back, prayed, and decided to go. My job was gracious enough to grant me a leave of absence for two months and suddenly I had a plane ticket and was learning Swahili. That's the short version of the journey to this point.
I do not know how much internet access I'll have, if any, but hopefully I'll be able to keep you all slightly informed. If not, the stories will keep till I get back. I have orders from multiple people to take lots of picture. I promise I will try.
If you have an extra prayer, please pray that God will use not only my nursing skills, but that I will be able to show His mercy and love, and that I see an elephant.
I'm not kidding, I really want to see an elephant so badly.
Thanks everyone for your encouragement!
As Grandma says, "See you here, there, or in the air!"
